There is no need to pay a fortune on blissful scrubs from the personal care stores when you can easily and affordably make your own by mixing essential oils, with a carrier oil and magnesium bath salts (Epsom salts).

The process is so easy that I made two different scrubs in a matter of 10minutes saving not only time going to the local shops but also money.

Today I will share with you my night-time relaxation scrub which I use in the shower to destress my muscles and to calm the body and brain before bed at night.

 


 

DIY body scrub - self care

 

Ingredients: 

1 ½ cups of Epsom salts (you can buy Epsom salts/magnesium bath salts while doing the food shop at the supermarket)

¼ cup of carrier oil (olive oil, sweet almond oil, or coconut oil is lovely to use – coconut oil is my fav for night time as it lets the skin breath and doesn’t have any slight odors)

3 drops of lavender essential oil  

3 drops of bergamot essential oil  

3 drops of geranium essential oil 

 

Essential oils like lavender and bergamot are rich in linalool and linalyl acetate, compounds that have well-known relaxing properties. Geranium is great for the skin and is an anti-inflammatory.

 

If you want to make your scrub a pretty color, you can use 3 drops of natural food coloring of your choice.

 

I reuse baby Charlise’s food jars to hold my scrubs in. Any jar will do but make sure its glass to avoid degrading plastics.

 

lavender body scrub

 

Directions:

Hop into the shower with your scrub but leave the water off. Give yourself a full body massage starting at your feet and work your way up the body massaging toward the heart to give your lymphatic system a hand (detoxifying massage). Once scrubbed-up turn the water on the warm and enjoy the aromatic compounds that are produced by the warm water/steam created.

 


 

This beautiful scrub should help to relax your muscles and mind perfectly before bedtime. Don’t go ruining it by picking up your cell phone or watching TV after your shower. Hop into bed with the lights dimmed and a good book. Enjoy some time in the bedroom talking with your partner/husband about the day, your hopes and dreams, and add a little meditation in there before turning out the lights and drifting off.
